Teton Backcountry Guides offers  Teton backpacking trips to suit all abilities and interests.  We offer family-friendly trips. Reserve one of the trips below or request custom dates. Our backpacking trips are available July through August.  We backpack in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness Area adjacent to Grand Teton National Park.  Just as scenic but less crowded, the Wilderness offers the highest protection of public lands.

SOLAR  SOJOURN TO OUR SECRET SPOT!!   August 20-21, 2017.  Join us for an overnight backpack trip to a secret location in the Wilderness for prime viewing of the TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE . Right on the trajectory of the eclipse, we’ll hike in 5 miles to a 9,000 foot location and spend the night camping complete with smore’s and a bonfire.  The following morning we’ll hike after breakfast to a scenic spot enjoy the experience.  After lunch, we’ll hike back to camp, pack up and descend  to the trailhead.  Includes all equipment, meals, guides. Cost: $595/plus tax

This is one of our most popular trips and is a great way to have an authentic mountain adventure for those new to the sport or short on time. Enjoy a private getaway in the mountains on a two day, one night backpack loop hike catered to your activity level. With close proximity to Jackson Hole, this overnight trip is an easy addition to a week-long vacation to the area.

On Day 1: With the gear already pre-organized, you simply need to move your personal clothing into the backpack we provide. We have many options for hikes based on the interest and ability level of your group.  One example:  We’ll hike 3 miles with 1,800 feet of elevation gain to our base camp in a subalpine meadow. Time and weather permitting, we hike to the summit of a 10,000 foot peak where we’ll find amazing views of the surrounding mountains. After a hearty dinner, we’ll enjoy the campfire and fall sleep in our tents to the sounds of a nearby babbling brook.

On Day 2: After breakfast, we hike less than 1/2 a mile to a 9,100 foot pass with great photo opportunities. We’ll then descend two miles into scenic Moose Creek where we hike five miles to a different trailhead. We provide a return shuttle back to the original trailhead, arriving approximately between 3-4 pm.

Cost: $495/person plus taxes/fees.  Includes two days guided backpacking, all backpacking equipment, and all meals.

3-day-wildernesss-AdventureThree-Day Wilderness Adventure

Spend three days covering the spectacular backcountry terrain of the northern Tetons in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness on this fantastic loop hike.

On Day 1: We hike 6 miles gaining 2,000 feet of elevation as we hike up and over a broad ridge with great views of the surrounding peaks. We’ll camp on our first night near a clear mountain stream, where you can fall asleep to the sounds of a babbling brook.

On Day 2: We gain 1,600 feet of elevation over six miles as we hike onto the Teton Crest Trail. You’ll hike over snow, rock and through meadows of wildflowers with great views of the Grand Teton. We camp that night by an alpine lake. Ample time is allowed for swimming, relaxing next to the cascading waterfall and exploring the alpine environs.

On Day 3: After breakfast and watching the sunrise over the lake, we’ll descend five miles back to the trailhead through meadows of wildflowers with fantastic views of Idaho, Montana, and Yellowstone National Park.

Cost:  $695/person plus tax. Includes all equipment and meals.

Spring-Bolsom-RootThree-Day Alpine Wildflower Circuit

Join us for this three-day loop hike in the southern Tetons during the peak alpine wildflower displays.  Hike departs and ends in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness Area

On Day 1: We hike 8 miles into the wilderness. Our initial climb is 2,000 feet over three miles to Mesquite Divide (9,132′) with great views of the Grand Tetons. From there, we continue hiking on the scenic Teton Crest Trail at elevations around 9,000 feet to our camp near a babbling brook at 8,500 feet.

On Day 2: We ascend into Grand Teton National Park, where we will hike 7 miles to our camp at the base of Fossil Peak. We hike on the Teton Crest Trail. En route, we will pass Marion Lake, with options to swim, photograph or lounge in the sun by the lake shore. That evening will be spent sleeping at 9,000 feet at the headwaters of Fox Creek in the  Jed Smith Wilderness.

On Day 3: We spend a full day hiking as we descend 9 miles into the remote and rugged Fox Creek drainage in the Targhee National Forest. We provide a shuttle back to the original trailhead, arriving approximately between 3-4 pm.

Cost: $695/person. Includes all equipment and meals.

The Details

We provide all the equipment, prepare the meals, and carry group gear and food leaving your packs light and comfortable. All you need to bring are your personal clothing. At camp, we  tend to logistics while you relax and enjoy the peaceful mountain setting.

We provide top of the line Go-Lite Backpacks, Marmot tents, Mountain Hardware sleeping bags, Therma-Rest sleeping pads, hiking poles,  and lightweight camp chairs.  All of our equipment is well maintained and will be given to you in good condition.

With over 20 years of mountain experience, your guides Jeff and Diane know how to make you feel comfortable and relaxed in the mountains. We are professional mountain guides who focus on your safety and education. Each day you’ll learn new things about the ecosystem that you are exploring, enhancing your experience and understanding of the natural history of the Tetons. You’ll learn about Leave No Trace backpacking and how to camp safely in bear country. We pride ourselves on providing quality, tasty and nutritious meals and top-notch equipment.

All trips subject to a 3% forest service user fee.  A 3% processing fee will be added to credit card transactions.

Due to logistics and detailed planning, private trips require a 21 day advanced reservation.   Trips are based on four participants.

Reservation/Cancellations:  A 50% deposit is required to confirm the reservation.  Balance on multi-day trips is due one month in advance of  trip departure.  Cancellations that occur more than  30 days n advance  are refunded deposits less a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations that occur less than 30 days of trip departure are subject to forfeiture of all monetary transactions.
