Teton Backcountry Guides Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary
Forward-focused TBG reflects back on a proud quarter-century of adventure and expertise.
Alta, Wyoming, November 1, 2024: Teton Backcountry Guides, honored as a winner in the 2024 SKI Magazine Travel Awards, has been helping skiers and hikers experience the untamed mountain beauty around the Tetons since 1986. The SKI Magazine praise, received on the 25th anniversary of TBG’s current iteration, is testament to the guide service’s enduring excellence and sterling reputation with winter sport insiders.
Assisted by their team of expert guides — trained and certified by the American Mountain Guides (AMGA) and each deeply familiar with the local terrain — co-owners Jeff Jung and Diane Verna, who took over TBG in 2000, curate private day tours and multi-day backcountry trips for clients. Diane Verna says, “We offer something for everyone — from an easy snowshoe to Teton Canyon yurt for families with small children, to a trip for friends that want to ski a big line in Grand Teton Park. We serve folks that want to get away from the scene on Teton Pass and spend a fun weekend skiing around our mountain yurts… We have prices and trips for all budgets.”
One of TBG’s secret powers is its network of four winter yurts strung along the western slopes of the Tetons, home bases that allow guests to explore deep into the mountains. The yurts, each of which accommodates eight people, have become a tradition for families and groups of friends to return to year after year. Yurt trips can be cozy DIY affairs or something decidedly more glam with porters packing in supplies and serving three healthy meals a day. The yurts also serve as basecamp for TBG’s guide-led workshops on backcountry skills and the kind of hands-on ski instruction that gets serious results.
Teton Backcountry Guides has proudly been selected again by Grand Teton National Park for renewal of its concessionaire contract for backcountry skiing and snowboarding services. The company’s professionalism, spotless safety record, and backcountry expertise prevailed over notoriously strong competition to again receive this honor.
