3 DAY CAMP: Women’s Backcountry Skills

Join Teton Backcountry Guides for an inspirational and supportive backcountry skills camp. Camp is limited to six women ensuring plenty of individualized instruction. Experience the backcountry while based out of a mountain yurt for three days.
Camp includes three day backcountry guiding/instruction, two nights slopeside lodging, all meals from lunch on day one through lunch on day three, rental of avalanche safety equipment, sleeping bag, and porter service to carry supplies.
Learn the art and sport of backcountry skiing and riding in a relaxed and supportive group setting. Camp will focus on backcountry safety, mountain travel, and powder technique. Skin in to our Plummer Canyon Yurt for a 3-day/2-night backcountry adventure with slopeside lodging at 8,700 feet. By day, we’ll explore the area’s best backcountry lines and by evening you can take in the alpenglow while sipping your favorite beverage, then gather by the wood-burning stove for a gourmet meal. Camp includes porters to carry in all food and keep your pack light so you have plenty of energy to rip it up!
Backcountry Skills Camp will focus on route finding and navigation skills, snow stability, weather, rescue, what to carry in your pack, nutrition, and powder skiing techniques. Participants must be in good physical and cardiovascular condition, have solid downhill ability, and be able to hike and ski four to five miles in a day. No avalanche education necessary.
The camp will focus on the following skills:
- What to carry in your pack for touring
- Use of climbing skins, avalanche transceivers and other rescue items
- Efficient uphill travel techniques
- Efficient transition skills
- Route finding in avalanche terrain
- Learn how to understand the snowpack
Participants should plan to meet at 8:30 am in Victor for departure for the Plummer Yurt.
