Acknowledgement of Risk / Release Form

All Teton Backcountry Guides participants must fill out the following consent form.



  • In consideration of the services provided by Teton Backcountry Guides, their agents, owners, officers, volunteers, participants, employees and all other persons or entities acting in any capacity on their behalf (herein collectively referred to as “Teton Backcountry Guides”):

    1) I acknowledge that backcountry skiing, snowboarding, wilderness travel and staying in the backcountry huts entails unanticipated risks, which cannot be eliminated, particularly in an unpatrolled wilderness environment in mountainous terrain. I also acknowledge that these activities could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis, death, or damage to myself, property, or to third parties. I understand that such risks simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity. These risks include amongst other things: Falling, temperature exposure (hypothermia, frostbite, frost nip, sunburn,) collision, striking obstructions or other persons, unsafe speed of travel for conditions or experience, equipment failure, failure to wear protective clothing, elevation changes, pulmonary edema, cerebral edema, AMS, weather conditions including electrical storms, avalanches and unfavorable snow conditions.

    Furthermore, Teton Backcountry Guides’ guides have difficult jobs to perform. They seek safety but are not infallible. They might be unaware of a participant’s fitness or abilities. They might misjudge the snow stability, the weather, the elements or the terrain. They might give inadequate warnings or instructions and the equipment being used might malfunction.

    2) I am voluntarily using the facilities, guides and /or services of Teton Backcountry Guides and expressly agree and promise to accept and assume all of the risks in this activity. My participation in this activity is purely voluntary, and I elect to participate in spite of the risks.

    3) I certify that I have adequate insurance to cover any injury or damage I may cause or suffer while participating, or else agree to bear the costs of such injury or damage myself. I further certify that I have no medical or physical conditions, which could interfere with my safety in this activity, or else I am willing to assume and bear the costs of all risks that may be created, directly or indirectly, by any such condition.

    4) In the event of a COVID-19 transmission, Teton Backcountry Guides is not responsible for any illness or sickness that you contract as part of Teton Backcountry Guides outing or yurt rental.

    5). In the event that I file a lawsuit against Teton Backcountry Guides, I agree to do so solely in Teton County, Wyoming, and I further agree that the substantive law of the State of Wyoming shall apply in that action in including those provisions as specified in Wyoming’s Recreational Liability Act. I agree that if any portion of this agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.

    I have had sufficient opportunity to read this entire document. I have read and understood it and agree to be bound by its terms. I further understand that Teton Backcountry Guides reserves the right to refuse any person it judges to be incapable of meeting the rigors and requirements of participating in backcountry travel.

GTNP Acknowledgement of Risk / Release Form

All participants traveling in Grand Teton National Park must fill out the following consent form.

  • In consideration of the services of Teton Backcountry Guides, their officers, agents, employees, and stockholders, and all other entities associated with those businesses hereinafter collectively referred to as “Teton Backcountry Guides”, I agree as follows:

    Although Teton Backcountry Guides has taken reasonable steps to provide me with appropriate equipment and skilled guides so I can enjoy an activity for which I may not be skilled, Teton Backcountry Guides has informed me this activity is not without risk. Certain risks are inherent in each activity and cannot be eliminated without destroying the unique character of the activity. These inherent risks are some of the same elements that contribute to the unique character of this activity and can be the cause of loss or damage to my equipment, or accidental injury, illness, or in extreme cases, permanent trauma or death. Teton Backcountry Guides does not want to frighten me or reduce my enthusiasm of this activity, but believes it is important for me to know in advance what to expect and to be informed of the inherent risks. The following describes some, but not all, of those risks:

    • Injury/Accident/Trauma
    • Avalanches
    • Hypothermia
    • Exposure to COVID-19


    I am aware that Teton Backcountry Guides entails risks of injury or death to any participant. I understand the description of these inherent risks is not complete and that other unknown or unanticipated inherent risks may result in injury or death. I agree to assume and accept full responsibility for the inherent risks identified herein and those inherent risks not specifically identified. My participation in this activity is purely voluntary, no one is forcing me to participate, and I elect to participate in spite of and with full knowledge of the inherent risks.

    I acknowledge that engaging in this activity may require a degree of skill and knowledge different than other activities and that I have responsibilities as a participant. I acknowledge that the staff of Teton Backcountry Guides has been available to more fully explain to me the nature and physical demands of this activity and the inherent risks, hazards, and dangers associated with this activity.

    I certify that I am fully capable of participating in this activity. Therefore, I assume and accept full responsibility for myself, including all minor children in my care, custody, and control, for bodily injury, death or loss of personal property and expenses as a result of those inherent risks and dangers identified herein and those inherent risks and dangers not specifically identified, and, as a result of my negligence in participating in this activity.

    In the event of exposure to COVID-19, Teton Backcountry Guides is not responsible for any transmission or contraction of the novel virus.

  • I have carefully read, clearly understood and accepted the terms and conditions stated herein and acknowledge that this agreement shall be effective and binding upon me, my heirs, assigns, personal representative and estate and for all members of my family, including minor children.
